Quick answer: Florida Statute § 760.27 says that when a person requests more than one emotional support animal, a housing provider may request information about the specific need for each animal. That does not mean a particular request is automatically accepted or denied.
What Florida law says
Section 760.27 applies to housing accommodation requests for emotional support animals to the extent required by federal law. When a disability-related need for an animal is not readily apparent, the statute allows a housing provider to ask for reliable information supporting the disability-related need. For multiple animals, it may ask about the specific need for each one.
The statute also limits what a housing provider may request. It says a provider may not ask for a diagnosis, the severity of a disability or related medical records. It may not require a particular form or notarized statement, or deny a request solely because the resident did not use the provider’s routine method. The provider may ask for proof that each animal meets applicable state and local licensing and vaccination rules.
Florida law says an online registration, card, patch or certificate by itself is not sufficient to reliably establish a disability or disability-related need. The relevant question is the person’s actual need and the reliable information that supports it.
How to prepare a focused response
- Read the housing provider’s instructions and note any dates or requested next steps.
- Describe the support need for each animal accurately. Do not assume that information about one animal automatically explains another.
- If a question is unclear, ask what information is missing and how it will be reviewed.
- Keep copies of the request, submitted materials, follow-up messages and delivery confirmations.
- Verify a screening portal with the property before sending sensitive information.
Protect your privacy
Keep a response focused on the accommodation request. Ask for a secure submission method and share only information relevant to the request. Do not send a diagnosis or full medical record just because a portal offers an upload field. If you are unsure what a request means, ask the housing provider to explain it or contact a qualified fair-housing resource.
Where an evaluation fits
Florida Service Animals connects Florida residents with Florida-licensed clinicians for individualized ESA and psychiatric service dog evaluations. The clinician independently decides whether documentation is clinically appropriate. Documentation is not guaranteed, and it does not guarantee a housing accommodation.
